YAKIMA, Wash. – Solarity Credit Union contributed $800,000 to YWCA Yakima’s “Bringing It Home” campaign on Tuesday, with support from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines.
A press release says Solarity donated $200,000, which was matched 3-to-1 with a grant from FHLB Des Moines.
YWCA Yakima provides domestic violence services in Yakima County and hosts the only emergency shelter in Yakima. The organization helped 14,000 individuals in 2023, however had to turn away over 1,000 families due to limited capacity.
With the donation, the capacity of the shelter will be tripled through an expansion into the St. Elizabeth Nursing School building.
“This donation goes above and beyond what we could have ever anticipated,” said YWCA Yakima CEO Cheri Kilty. “Its impact on our community and YWCA’s mission cannot be overstated. Not only does it allow us to break ground sooner, but it has also helped us achieve our local capital campaign goal. Solarity has been an unwavering supporter of the YWCA for years, and we are incredibly grateful to be one of their community partners.”
