Yakima, WA — Yakima Valley College is partnering up with the Museum of Flight, Washington Aerospace Scholar and the College Success Foundation to create a STEM pathway.
Together, they’ll host a movie screening and aerospace career panel on Friday, December 8 from 5-9 p.m. The screening will be at the YVC Conference Center in Building #38, at 1704 W. Nob Hill Blvd.
The event is free and includes dinner and movie snacks. Those attending will be watching the movie, “A Million Miles Away.” It’s a movie inspired by the story of NASA flight engineer Jose Hernandez.
After the movie, attendees will have the opportunity to take part in a panel of aerospace professionals.
Because space is limited, you’re encouraged to register ahead of time through the Museum of Flight.
Background on the film.
“A Million Miles Away,” is the story of Hernandez and his decade-long journey through a rural village in Michoacan, Mexico to more than 200 miles above the Earth in the International Space Station.
Following the movie, the panel of speakers includes Brent Justice, a test automation engineer from Stoke Space. Erin Acuña an aerophysics engineer, Joshua Ernersto Aviles a thermal engineer with Blue Origin, Lordes Cruz a liaison manager for the Boeing Company.
The Washington Aerospace Scholars are aiming to increase the number of students that plan to get a degree and career in STEM.
This would be possible through academic study, project-based learning and experimentation while also having an emphasis on critical thinking and self evaluation.
