Yakima’s water is PFAS free

YAKIMA, Wash.-Recent testing has determined that Yakima’s drinking water is PFAS-free, according to the City.

Ongoing concerns about drinking water quality and safety throughout the Yakima Valley prompted Yakima to have its water tested for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

According to the City of Yakima, all water tests came back with no detection of PFAS in the drinking water supply.

“We tested all of our sources; four wells and our surface water (Naches River),” said Water/Irrigation Manager Mike Shane. “Like last September, results showing PFAS not detected is great news, especially given the health and environmental concerns associated with these substances.”

Yakima had its water tested in September of 2023 ahead of new EPA requirements on PFAS in drinking water.

For more information or questions about the recent testing, Yakima residents may call Water/Irrigation Manager Mike Shane at 509-576-6480.

More information and videos about PFAS contamination are available through the Washington State Department of Health.
