YAKIMA, Wash. – An accident involving a forklift rolling over resulted in the death of a Yakima man on Tue., Nov. 5.
Chief Deputy Coroner Marshall Slight reported that the incident occurred near Smurfit WestRock at around 10:30 p.m.
The victim, 62-year-old John Scerbik, was on duty transporting materials for WestRock when the forklift he was operating went off the road. The vehicle flipped and rolled, trapping him underneath.
Deputy Coroner Slight stated that Scerbik died at the scene due to a crushing injury to the chest, confirming it was an accidental death in a Nov. 6 autopsy.
Scerbik’s family has been notified of the incident.
Yakima Police have indicated that the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries is now leading the investigation into the accident.
