YAKIMA, Wash.-Yakima Valley College is hosting two Tejano music and family celebrations in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Herminia Esqueda, a pro-equity, anti-racism, strategic alignment administrator for the Department of Social & Health Services in Washington State will present on Oct. 7 and Oct. 9.
Esqueda is a speaker, facilitator, trainer and storyteller who has worked in diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, she is also a member and co-chair of the Latino/a Leadership Network.
According to YVC, Esqueda’s presentations will cover how the Tejano music genre has been fused with Mexican and European influence.
The presentation on Oct. 7 will be held at 1 p.m. in the HUB on the Yakima campus, the Oct. 9 presentation will be in the Student Activity Center on the Grandview campus at 12:30 p.m.
Hispanic Heritage Month runs from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. Esqueda’s presentations are part of YVC’s Diversity Series, which explores topics and issues beyond race, gender, class and sexuality.
