Yakima traffic light outages planned for maintenance

YAKIMA, Wash.-Temporary traffic signal outages are planned at intersections throughout Yakima for the next two to three months.

The outages are required as part of annual maintenance at Yakima’s 115 intersections with lights and should last five minutes or less, according to a press release from the City.

“This work is needed to replace a component in each signal known as a Malfunction Monitoring Unit or MMU,” said Traffic Operations Supervisor Dan Nickoloff. “The MMU is certified each year and replaces the one from the previous year.”

Maintenance is scheduled to take place between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. from Monday through Friday. When the lights are out, signals will flash red and drivers should treat them as stop signs until they are on again.
