YAKIMA, Wash.-The State Track and Field Championships will be held in Yakima for the next four years.
The Yakima School District announced that it secured the hosting rights for the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s 1B, 2B and 1A Championships on March 22.
“We are thrilled to announce the expansion of the WIAA State Track & Field Championships, which will be hosted at Zaepfel Stadium and Don Holder Track in Yakima for the next four years,” said Dr. Trevor Greene, Superintendent of Yakima School District.
The district being awarded the Championships was due, at least in part, to the community passing the latest YSD levy in Feb., which ensured that the district’s facilities have the resources and standards required for hosting, according to a YSD press release.
The 2024 1B, 2B and 1A State Track and Field Championships are May 23-25 at Zaepfel Stadium.
“This event not only showcases the athletic talents of students across the state but also highlights the strong sense of community and support in Yakima,” said Dr. Greene. “We are grateful to our voters for making this possible.”
