RIMROCK, Wash.-A Yakima-Tieton Irrigation District canal that is over 100-years old has been damaged in the Retreat Fire burning southwest of Naches.

The 115-year-old canal was badly damaged in the fire and was saved due to the irrigation district lowering the flow of water, according to a post from the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office.

County officials and YCSO Deputies toured the fire area on July 28 and report that the infrastructure will need serious repairs to restore the integrity of the canal.

The retreat fire is burning 24,629 acres and is currently 4 percent contained, according to the official fire information page.

A community meeting on the Retreat Fire is scheduled for 6 p.m. on July 29 in the Naches Valley Elementary School cafeteria.
