Yakima police arrest man for entering airport runway

YAKIMA, Wash.- Yakima police have arrested a man for criminal trespassing after he walked on the airport runway and halted airport flight traffic Sunday afternoon on July 7.

Yakima Police Department responded to a man unlawfully entering the airport runway around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. Airport officials temporarily suspended airport traffic to allow police to retrieve the man safely.

Police described the man as being in an “altered mental state.” Police took the man into custody and booked him for Criminal Trespassing.

The Federal Aviation Administration says runway “excursions” can result in injuries to flight crew and passengers, as well as severe to fatal injuries for individuals on the runway.
