SUNNYSIDE, Wash. – A Yakima man was sentenced to 17 years in prison on Sept. 16 as part of a plea deal for the murder of a 32-year-old man in 2023.
Julian Castillo, 23, shot and killed Sunnyside resident Antonio Carrazco on June 22, 2023 in the 1400 block of South 6th Street, according to the Sunnyside Police Department.
Probable cause documents say Carrazco was walking southbound on South 6th Street at around 6:27 p.m. when he came up to two teens preparing to get haircuts from Castillo.
When Carrazco approached, witnesses said he asked the three who they “repped,” indicating to law enforcement that he had asked if they were gang members. Castillo told Carrazco that he was not affiliated and Carrazco walked away.
One of the teen witnesses said Castillo handed him clippers and a comb then turned towards Carrazco. He then took out a gun and shot Carrazco in the back of the head, resulting in his death.
Court documents say Castillo then went to the home of his girlfriend, who was later arrested for obstruction. He was arrested a few months later on Sept. 29, 2023.
“We want to thank the witnesses that came forward to assist our detectives in solving this case,” said Chief Rob Layman. “Without your help this may not have been possible.”
