Yakima County Sheriff’s Office uses K9 Simcoe to locate runaway vehicle thief

YAKIMA, Wash.- The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office used K9 Simcoe to find runaway vehicle thief on July 4.

According to a Facebook post from the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, Wapato Police found a reported stolen vehicle that was connected to criminal activity in Yakima County.

The suspect in the vehicle drove away leading Wapato PD into a police chase. Spike strips were set up in the area by the Zillah Police Department, ending the chase.

The suspect ran away from the scene but was seen escaping into a hop field.

According to YCSO, K9 Simcoe tracked the suspect for half a mile before finding them hiding in brush.

The suspect surrendered and was taken into custody.

Wapato PD, Zillah Pd, Sunnyside PD, Washington State Patrol, and Yakima County Sheriff’s Office all aided in capturing the suspect.
