YAKIMA, Wash.–Yakima Valley Dairies has recently been required to test wells for safe water, and the county released a statement saying resident’s health are a priority.
County Commissioners have reached out to Lower Valley residents who have drinking water from contaminated wells, according to the statement. Effected residents have been offered free well testing, in-home treatment and educational resources.
Yakima County has been addressing elevated nitrates in groundwater and partnered with multiple health districts to do so, the statement says.
The partnerships help the county with progress in addressing the nitrate contamination and science-based solutions to the issue, according to the statement.
District 2 Commissioner Kyle Curtis said the county is committed to addressing groundwater safety with a fast-based approach, the statement says.
“Together with our partners, we will continue working to address elevated nitrates in groundwater and provide the necessary resources to help protect our communities,” Curtis said, according to the statement.
