A Tietan man accused of trying to break into an Ellensburg recreational vehicle dealership three years ago was arraigned earlier this week in Kittitas County Superior Court.

Bradley James Dalrymple, 43, was charged with first-degree attempted theft for a burglary at Central Powersports in January 2021.

Dalrymple had previously been sought on a warrant for his arrest, but during his court appearance Monday, he said he had been incarcerated at Coyote Ridge Corrections Center.

He pleaded not guilty to the felony accusation.

Deputy Prosecutor Patricia Todd told the court that Dalrymple’s criminal history included 27 judicial entries on his record, and asked Judge L. Candace Hooper to have the defendant held in jail without bail.

Hooper agreed, but noted that Dalrymple will get credit for time served as he remained in custody in the county jail.

Dalrymple’s legal troubles in Kittitas County began after Ellensburg police were called to a burglary in progress on Jan. 23, 2021 at Central Powersports on West Dolarway Road after someone reported seeing people inside a fenced area where bikes were stored.

The business, which sells motorcycles, snowmobiles and other recreational vehicles, had been burglarized in the recent past and a motorcycle had been stolen.

Shortly after the 911 call, officers made a high-risk stop on a vehicle that had left the area and pulled into a nearby Chevron gas station. Dalrymple and another man were taken into custody.

Dalrymple said he had came to Ellensburg to drop off his passenger at the home of a woman he knew, and they had pulled over so Dalrymple could go to the bathroom. He said his passenger had then called him over to look at the items in the storage yard, but denied doing anything criminal.

Another passenger in the vehicle, a woman who was dating Dalrymple, said they had brought the other passenger to Ellensburg but she was sleeping when the vehicle was stopped. She said the two men got out and left, and the other passenger came back and asked for “snippers” but she did not give him any tools, according to court documents.

They eventually drove away, she said.

She also said both men had flashlights, and police found a flashlight on the property that matched a description of the one Dalrymple had in his possession earlier. An officer noted that although the ground was frosty, the flashlight did not have any frost on it.

Police also found that latches on CONEX storage containers had been moved, but the intruders were not able to get inside any of the boxes.

As the investigation continued, officers reviewed phone video footage that showed two men inside the storage area of the business. Their clothing matched the clothes that Dalrymple and his passenger were wearing.

Dalrymple and the other passenger were booked into jail on suspicion of second-degree attempted burglary.

At the close of Dalrymple’s court appearance June 10, a scheduling order was approved that set the start date of the jury trial for July 30.
