YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. – The Yakima County Department of Corrections (YCDOC) earned accreditation by the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC) following a rigorous accreditation program.
YCDOC will receive several accreditation benefits, including administrative and operational effectiveness, fair recruitment and employment practices, improved technology use, training and more.
“Police accountability is important to ensure and improve public trust,” said WASPC Executive Director Steven Strachan. “YCDOC took these direct and tangible steps to earn the public’s confidence in their operations. The community should be proud of the men and women who serve them every day.”
YCDOC is one of only eight correctional facilities in Washington to get accreditation from WASPC.
“We are proud to be accredited by WASPC,” said Director Jeremy Welch. “It means our department has achieved the highest professional standards for corrections and policing.”
