RICHLAND, Wash.-The WSU Tri-Cities Black Student Union will honor the late Elson S. Floyd, the school’s first Black President on Feb. 29.
The community is invited to the Recognition Event at 2 p.m. in the Elson S. Floyd building in the atrium.
According to a WSU press release on the event, a portrait of Floyd and a plaque that will be placed in the building will be unveiled at the event with Floyd’s widow, Carmento in attendance.
The West Building on the WSU Tri-Cities campus was renamed the Elson S. Floyd Building in 2017, in honor of his WSU legacy.
Floyd served as WSU President from 2007 until 2015 and was known for his dedication to increasing access and affordability for higher education, according to WSU’s press release.
