OLYMPIA, Wash.-The University of Washington and the Michigan Wolverines may be rivals on the football field, however, the Washington State Patrol and Michigan State Police are teaming up to prevent impaired driving during the National Championship game.

Football fans across Washington will gather to celebrate the title tilt between the Huskies and Wolverines and the State Patrol is encouraging fans to plan for a safe ride home by reminding everyone that fans don’t let fans drive drunk.

“This should be a time of fun and family for all Washingtonians, not sorrow and tragedy,” said Washington State Patrol Chief John R. Batiste. “We ask everyone on the roadways to slow down, pay attention, drive sober, and buckle up.”

Michigan State Police are also advising all Wolverine fans to plan ahead for a safe ride home after watching the game.

“Getting behind the wheel impaired is a choice and it’s the wrong one,” said Col. James F. Grady II, director of the Michigan State Police.

According to a joint media release from WSP and MSP, motorists in Washington and Michigan should call 911 and report any impaired drivers.
