ELLENSBURG, Wash. – A plow truck driver with the Washington State Department of Transportation was temporarily hospitalized after a crash near Ellensburg on Monday.

WSDOT says the plow driver was treating westbound I-90 when it was rear-ended by a semi-truck at around 5:30 p.m.

The driver went to the hospital with back stiffness, however was released to recover at home.

The Washington State Patrol is investigating the crash’s cause. WSDOT wants to remind drivers that plows clear roads at 35 miles per hour and asks for drivers to be patient when driving behind one to keep everyone safe.

WSDOT says the plow truck sustained minor damage, including tire issues, loose bolts and drive line and transmission damage. WSDOT mechanics hopes that the truck will be back on the streets by Saturday.

Two days before this collision, six WSDOT workers were hospitalized after being hit by a drunk driver on I-5 near Vancouver.

“We’ve asked before, we’ll ask again and we’ll never stop asking for as long as we need to: Please do your part to keep road workers safe,” said WSDOT on social media. “They are counting on you to help them go home safely at the end of their shift.”
