YAKIMA, Wash.-Looking to get outside for a fun, family-friendly activity after Christmas? Yakima Parks and Recreation is planning a Winter Family Hiking Adventure on Dec. 28.
“This Winter Family Hiking Adventure is a fantastic opportunity for families to bond, learn and experience the great outdoors together,” said Parks & Recreation Director Ken Wilkinson.
Pre-registration for the hike which will begin in front of the City of Yakima Public Works building at 2301 Fruitvale Boulevard at 9:30 a.m. is required.
According to a City of Yakima press release, the hike will include eight stations on topics such as, hiking apps, hiking essentials, hiking in groups, dog-friendly hiking, hiking dangers and more.
After meeting at the Public Works building hikers will carpool to a trailhead for a hike of one to three miles that is classified as beginner and family-friendly, according to the City of Yakima.
The cost for the hike is $5 per hiker and pets are welcome.
Hikers are asked to bring the following items.
Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothes and shoesSnacks and waterA leash and any other gear your dog may need
“Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a beginner, this program promises fun, education and memories to last a lifetime,” said Wilkinson.
