BENTON COUNTY, Wash.- A detached home garage and several vehicles were destroyed in a Sunday afternoon on North Bauer Road in Benton City.

Benton County Fire District#2 (BCFD) says they were called to the scene of a sizeable home garage fire around 2:40 p.m. The homeowner reported seeing smoke coming from the detached shed. According to officials, heavy wind conditions caused the fire to escalate quickly.

According to Captain Bill Reed of the BCFD2, the fire was “heavily wind-driven” and estimated to be 30×50 by the time firefighters arrived.

Firefighters from several districts were called to help put out the fire. BCFD#2 reports requesting resources from BCFD #1, BCFD #4, the City of Pasco, Kennewick, and Richland.

Officials confirmed the fire was controlled around 4:00 p.m. The fire destroyed the garage, a snowmobile, a tractor, and at least two UTV vehicles.

The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office will investigate the cause of the fire.
