[Warning: The following contains MAJOR spoilers for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2 finale.]
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon concluded The Book of Carol on Sunday, November 3 on AMC, and with the Season 2 finale came the first look at Season 3. The trailer (above) revealed the first look at Stephen Merchant‘s new role, teased a tender moment between Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride), showed off the show’s new look and landscape, and reaffirmed that it will premiere in 2025. The teaser doesn’t feature Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi) or Ash (Manish Dayal), but could they be back in Season 3? We breakdown the possibility here.
AMC announced on August 27 that The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 3 was officially in production in Madrid. This followed the renewal announcement at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, during which Reedus, McBride, and more of The Walking Dead Universe team debuted the official full-length trailer for Season 2.
There have already been casting updates for the third season in the time since, including the first official trailer. Here’s every update so far about Daryl Dixon Season 3, and stay tuned here as we continue to report the latest developments moving forward.
Is The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon renewed?
Daryl Dixon was renewed for Season 3 one month before its Season 2 premiere.
Where is The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 3 set?
The Book of Carol took place in France just like Season 1, but Season 3 will move locations to Spain. Part of the season will also take place in London. At its core, Daryl Dixon functions to reveal how the Walker apocalypse affected other countries of the world, whereas The Walking Dead and most of its spinoffs have kept the focus on American cities and towns.
Is there a trailer for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 3?
In the Season 3 trailer, the Spanish setting is warmer and brighter and features desert and city landscapes. There’s a glimpse of Merchant in London in the 30-second teaser, and Daryl and Carol sit before a fire at the end with Carol’s shirt sleeve hanging off of her shoulder.
“I was ready to give up. I thought it was all over,” Daryl says to her with an intense look, as she replies, “You and me both.”
Daryl and Carol are still determined to get back home to America. Their last moments in the finale showed them walking through the Chunnel from France to England, and the last glimpse of Laurent showed him flying away to safety (hopefully) with Ash.

Yes, the series is currently filming Season 3 in Madrid. AMC said in its August 27 announcement that filming will also feature “extensive location shooting planned in the Galicia, Aragón, Catalonia, and Valencia regions, each providing a new and unique backdrop for the post-apocalyptic world.”
What is The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 3 about?
The logline for Season 3, as well as the official cast list, confirmed that both Daryl and Carol would make it out of Season 2 alive. Other characters from their French adventure, however, weren’t as lucky.
“Season 3 follows Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier as they continue their journey to somehow return home and to the ones they love,” the logline reads. “As they struggle to find their way back, the path takes them farther astray, leading them through distant lands with ever-changing and unfamiliar conditions as they witness the various effects of the Walker apocalypse.”
A highlight of the season was the Caryl reunion, which took place a little more than halfway through the six-episode season.
Who is in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 3 cast?
Stephen Merchant in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 3 (AMC)
In addition to Reedus, McBride, and Merchant, Daryl Dixon Season 3 stars Eduardo Noriega, Óscar Jaenada, and Alexandra Masangkay in series regular roles, with Candela Saitta and Hugo Arbués, among others, in recurring roles. Details about Merchant’s role are still being kept secret for now.
It’s unlikely that we’ll see much of the French cast in Season 3, but it’s possible that Laurent will be seen again in this universe — possibly even in Daryl Dixon down the line. Director Daniel Percival told TV Insider that the finale’s opening moments, which showed Daryl and Laurent singing “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” by The Rolling Stones, was one of Reedus and Scigliuzzi’s last scenes together.
“I didn’t know Norman was going to sing, but he was totally swept up in the moment,” he said. “It was a very beautiful scene to shoot, and a very delicate scene to shoot, because it wasn’t just a farewell. We were coming to the end of season, and this was one of the last scenes [Reedus] was ever going to shoot with Louis. So, it was a really honest, swept-up-in-the-moment scene.”
The Walking Dead Universe boss Scott Gimple told Entertainment Weekly that he’s interested in bringing Laurent back in future episodes, but remained coy about the possibility of seeing the character return in the third season.
“It’s a garden of forking paths. There are different things I’ve been working on, and I have absolutely played with how Laurent might fit within those things in America,” he said. “You have all these pivot points. Like, oh, if we’re doing this, we can’t do that. Or if we stop doing this, we can’t do this. Or what do we need here? And who’s available then? But yeah, he’s absolutely in mind. Louis is terrific, Laurent was wonderful. And such a great character to bring different things out of Daryl. I am a fan.”
If Laurent is to return, hopefully that means Ash will be back as well. If they make it back to America, they are presumably each other’s only companions there. Clémence Poésy‘s Isabelle was one of the major deaths of the second season, so she won’t be back.
When does The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 3 come out?
Season 3 is slated for a 2025 release.
The series is executive produced by Scott Gimple, Showrunner David Zabel, Reedus, McBride, Greg Nicotero, Brian Bockrath, Angela Kang, Jason Richman, Dan Percival, and Steve Squillante, with Silvia Aráez and Jesús de la Vega joining as executive producers this season. Peregrinos SP24 provides Spanish production services for Season 3.
