ZILLAH, Wash. – Fire crews with Yakima County Fire District 5 were on scene of a large wildfire northeast of Zillah.
The fire burned mostly brush, grew to about 300 acres in size and is fully contained, according to YCFD5 Deputy Fire Chief Ken Robillard.
Two helicopters based out of Yakima were used to fight the fire. According to YCFD5 Staging Manager Joey Weedin, no residents in the area were threatened by the fire.
Power in the areas of Toppenish and Zillah was turned off as a precautionary measure, with the emergency de-energization lasting for about 30 to 45 minutes, according to Simon Gutierrez with Pacific Power.
It is now the policy of Pacific Power to cut the electricity to areas of active fire, according to Weedin.
Dozers are still in the area lining the perimeter of the fire, however most crews have since been cleared.
Robillard says the cause was a controlled burn that got out of hand.
