BENTON CITY, Wash. – Fire crews with Benton County Fire District #2 are currently on scene of a wildfire that burned 5 outbuildings and a home in the area of River Road and Harrison Loop, according to BCFD2 Fire Chief Dennis Bates.
Bates says the fire started as a wildfire but expanded into a residential structure fire, noting that wind is causing issues for crews. The house that caught fire did not appear to be lived in.
One person was injured in the fire and did not accept medical assistance.
The fire is currently in mop-up and is estimated to be a half-acre in size, according to Bates.
A team was reportedly brought in to cut down trees to help protect firefighters.
River Road is closed at SR 225 and the south end of Harrison Loop, according to BCFD2.
Benton County Fire District #1 crews are also responding to the fire and are warning that winds could shift and make the situation even more dangerous and are advising people to avoid the area.
Bates says approximately 56 firefighters were brought to help fight the fire.
