TRI-CITIES, Wash. – The westbound lanes of I-182 in the Tri-Cities experienced severe back ups on the evening of Aug. 29, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation’s Travel Center Map.
The backups were due to multiple incidents and crashes, according to WSP Trooper Christ Thorson.
First a truck with a trailer carrying orchard ladders tipped over near Road 100 in Pasco.
The ladders in the roadway caused two drivers behind the truck to crash, which shutdown the westbound lanes of I-182 around 5:30 p.m., according to Trooper Thorson.
Around the same time two other crashes happened in the eastbound lanes, causing traffic to back up in both directions.
According to Trooper Thorson, traffic was backed up for miles from about 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
While the ladders falling onto the roadway caused the first crash the others were caused by drivers following too closely and not paying attention, according to Trooper Thorson
