RICHLAND, Wash. – A man was arrested on an eluding charge and several outstanding warrants after allegedly stealing a car and causing a chase in Richland.
The West Richland Police Department says on Sept. 20 at around 8:38 p.m., an officer spotted a stolen car in the 4900 block of Arena Road.
Officers tried to contact the man inside the car, later identified as Andy Guzman-Gonzalez, who proceeded to drive away and attempt to elude police. During the chase, the car lost two front tires and Guzman-Gonzalez reportedly threw a handgun out of the window.
Several PIT maneuvers were attempted throughout the chase and Guzman-Gonzalez allegedly crashed into an officer’s car. The officer was not injured.
The chase ended when the driver almost hit an apartment building in the 3900 block of Van Giesen Street. WRPD says Guzman-Gonzalez got out and tried breaking into another car but was stopped and taken into custody.
No one was seriously injured through the chase. A passenger in the stolen car was later released.
Guzman-Gonzalez was booked into the Benton County Jail on several charges including stolen vehicle possession, eluding, reckless endangerment and more. He also had several outstanding warrants for his arrest.
