WEST RICHLAND, Wash.-West Richland Police, the Benton County Prosecutor’s Office and Richland School District held a press conference updating the Elias Huizar case on April 24.
Huizar was stopped by authorities near Eugene, Oregon after allegedly killing two women in West Richland and fleeing with his one-year-old son.
According to the WRPD, Huizar died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. His son was unharmed and Washington Child Protective Services will be working to bring him back to the state, according to Benton County Prosecutor Eric Eisinger.
Angelica Santos was identified as the victim found in Huizar’s home and an autopsy is scheduled for later this week.
Santos, 17, was the mother of Huizar’s son and is the victim whom Huizar was facing 3rd degree rape charges against, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.
Students will return to school at William Wiley Elementary on Wednesday, April 24 and the Richland School District plans to have counseling and support services available.
The focus of the school day will be “the community working together to get through this,” according to Dr. Shelley Redinger with RSD, “with lots of hugs and support.”
