WEST RICHLAND, Wash. – The West Richland Police Department announced that Code Compliance Officers will be placing emphasis on property violations involving dry grass prior to Fourth of July celebrations.
WRMC 8.16.030 Vegetation Nuisance is punishable by a $250 fine and is violated for having dry or dead vegetation that exceeds six inches in height on a property smaller than 2.2 acres.
For larger properties, a 20-foot fire break is required at the property’s edge and a 5-foot fire break is required when adjoined with an improved public right of way.
WRPD says having shorter dry vegetation will slow down incoming fires and will give first responders a chance to arrive in time and prevent property loss.
