Weather and staffing shortages may cause holiday travel delays

Travelers planning to fly to major U.S. cities like Boston, Tampa, Dallas, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, or Seattle may face delays due to low clouds and wind, according to the FAA. Snow could also be an issue in Minneapolis and Denver, potentially affecting flights.

Airport officials at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEATAC) have assured that all systems are ready for the Thanksgiving travel rush. SEATAC is the 11th busiest airport in the nation, and three months ago, it experienced massive delays and cancellations due to a cyber attack.

The FAA is currently dealing with a shortage of air traffic controllers, particularly in the northeast, which could further impact travel. New York City is expected to experience the worst delays due to this shortage.

Travelers are advised to prepare for their holiday journeys. One traveler suggested, “Definitely pick your outfit the night before. That’s what I think. Hang up your outfit, know what you want to wear, make sure it’s comfortable, buy some new shoes so that it’s like you’re excited about it.”

Families traveling with children might find this tip useful: “Follow my wife,” said a traveler when asked about getting through security smoothly.

The FAA is also keeping a close watch on the weather, which could further impact air traffic.
