Washington Poison Center hosting student story contest

SEATTLE, Wash.-The Washington Poison Center is hosting a story contest for students in kindergarten through 8th grade.

According to the WPC, the contest aims to prevent and reduce harm from poisoning through expertise, collaboration and education.

2024 marks the 18th year the Poison Center will host a contest and the first time it will be a story contest. The contest is open to any Washington student in home school, private or public schools. Full contest rules and resources are available online.

Students are encouraged to submit short stories, between 250 and 500 words on household poisoning prevention and the Washington Poison Center’s efforts to keep everyone safe.

Stories should educate, entertain and inspire a safer, healthier community, according to a WPC press release.

The story contest opened on Jan. 11 and submissions can be entered until Feb. 4, with the winners announced on March. 12.

Prizes for the WPC story contest:

The winning story will be transformed into an animated video.An Ipad or $300 gift card to a bookstore.A class party with Mr. Yuk.A visit with local legislators.Story and video shared online and across WPC’s social media platforms.
