YAKIMA, Wash.-A Wapato man has been indicted by a federal grand jury on second degree murder charges stemming from a 2023 car crash.
Jason Alexander Logie, 35, was indicted for a crash on Sept. 9, 2023 on the Yakama Nation that killed one person and injured another. If convicted he could face up to life in prison.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Washington, Logie had been drinking and drove his car across the center line of the road and hit an oncoming car.
“Vehicular homicides on Tribal land have a devastating impact, which extends far beyond the immediate victims,” said U.S. Attorney Vanessa Waldref. “Tribal communities deserve safety, and they deserve justice.”
Logie made his first court appearance on Sept. 4 and a detention hearing is scheduled for Sept. 6, according to a Justice Department press release on the case.
The Yakama Nation Tribal Police Department is investigating the case.
