SILVER SPRINGS, Md.- WanaBana Apple Cinnamon fruit puree pouches may contain elevated levels of lead, according to the FDA.
The fruit pouches are sold nationally and have been voluntarily recalled by WanaBana. The FDA says all lot codes and expiration dates are affected.
According to NBC, the FDA became aware of the issue after North Carolina health officials found four children with elevated blood lead levels.
The investigation in North Carolina reportedly determined that the puree pouches from WanaBana could be a potential source of the exposure, according to the FDA.
In a press release, WanaBana advised customers who purchased the affected pouches “to stop using the product immediately and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.”
Parents of children who have consumed the puree pouches and are concerned about potentially elevated lead levels should contact their healthcare provider for a blood test.
