LACEY, Wash. – The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (UTC) announced railroad crossing and safety improvements for Walla Walla County and Yakima County on Tuesday.
Walla Walla County
A $104,500 grant was passed by the UTC to enhance railroad crossing safety in Walla Walla County.
Seven Grade Crossing Protective Fund (GCPF) awards were granted to replace train detection equipment on the Columbia-Walla Walla Railroad in the county in an effort to improve serviceability and reliability of crossings.

Yakima County
State regulators approved $72,000 for safety upgrades at nine crossings in southwest Yakima County.
The UTC approved the GCPF grants to replace crossing signal batteries and battery chargers between Toppenish and White Swan, thus improving safety for crossing users according to UTC.
