WALLA WALLA, Wash. – A Walla Walla man was sentenced on Thu., March 7 by the U.S. Department of Justice to 84 months in prison followed by four years of supervised release for trafficking meth, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Washington.
Court documents say 38-year-old Seth Cory Cunha was arrested on Jan. 10, 2021 when a narcotics K9 was alerted to the presence of narcotics in his rented vehicle. No drugs were found but there was over $3,500 in cash in the center console.
Two days later, a detective with the Walla Walla Police Department listened to several phone calls Cunha made while in jail to his girlfriend and roommate.
In the calls, Cunha mentioned the cash, his phones and a storage unit that he was referring to in coded language.
An investigation would later reveal the location of the storage unit. A search warrant was granted and detectives found a Gatorade bottle that was made into a smoking device, five bags containing meth, a loaded pistol with spare ammunition and cash.
Cunha’s charge is for Possession with Intent to Distribute a Mixture and Substance Containing a Detectable Amount of Methamphetamine.
According to court documents, Cunha was previously sentenced in 2017 to spend over three years in prison for possessing meth and causing a pursuit. He was released in June 2020, only seven months before his next arrest.
