WALLA WALLA, Wash.-The Walla Walla Police Department will now use flock cameras to help fight crime.
The flock safety falcon cameras capture still images of cars and license plates, helping identify stolen cars or cars used in crimes and are intended to reduce crime and increase safety, according to the WWPD.
To help solve crimes quickly and efficiently, the cameras will be positioned throughout the city, according to a press release announcing the cameras, however, they do not take video and will not be used to issue traffic violations or speeding tickets.
Every search conducted with the new flock cameras will require a valid reason and regular audits will be done to prevent misuse, according to the WWPD.
Residents are invited to see how the cameras are being used through the WWPD’s transparency portal.
