Former New England Patriots player Mike Vrabel was named as the new head coach of the franchise on Sunday following the sacking of predecessor Jerod Mayo, the club confirmed.

Vrabel, a member of three Super Bowl-winning teams during his 2001-2008 stint with the Patriots, will be formally unveiled on Monday.

No details of the contract were revealed but ESPN reported that the 49-year-old had inked a multi-year contract.

Vrabel spent this season on the coaching staff of the Cleveland Browns.

He had previously been head coach of the Tennessee Titans from 2018-2023, helping the team reach the playoffs for three straight seasons in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

He was named coach of the year in 2021 after helping the Titans compile a 12-5 regular season record, but the team were eliminated by the Cincinnati Bengals in their first playoff game.

He was sacked by the Titans after the 2023 season after the team missed out on the playoffs with a 6-11 regular season record.
