KENNEWICK, Wash.-A senior mobile home community will be a little safer this holiday season thanks to a group of volunteers installing smoke detectors for residents.

Volunteers from Century 21 Tri Cities, Gesa Credit Union, Kennewick Fire Department, and the Red Cross will be installing the smoke alarms as part of the Red Cross Sound the Alarm home fire campaign.

The Sound the Alarm Day of Action will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Greenbrier Village in Kennewick at 7901 W. Clearwater Avenue.

Volunteer teams will install smoke detectors, discuss home fire safety with residents and help them create escape plans at the event.

“We are extremely lucky to have partners who are willing to go out in any weather conditions and give up a Saturday to do this work,” said Michele Roth, Executive Director of the local Red Cross. “With the usual increase in fires over the winter, we want to be sure vulnerable community members have the information and smoke alarms they need to help keep them safe.”
