YAKIMA, Wash. – The Yakima City Council announced on Tuesday during a meeting that Vicki Baker will be the next Yakima City Manager.

The City of Yakima says Baker and the two other finalists, former Franklin County Administrator Mike Gonzalez, who is now the City Manager of Sunnyside, and Wellton, Arizona Town Manager Richard Marsh, Jr., were each interviewed on July 1. Negotiations started with Baker the next day.

“The Council is excited to welcome Vicki Baker as the next Yakima city manager,” said Mayor Patricia Byers. “We are confident Vicki is the right person for the job. She knows the Yakima community. She has a broad range of professional experience that makes her a good fit as city manager,” said Byers. “She’s enthusiastic to get started and so is the Council.”

A news release from the City says Baker ran her own public relations firm from 2006 to 2009 in Yakima, became a Yakima County Commissioner through most of 2020 and became the Yakima Valley Conference of Governments Deputy Director in 2021.

Baker starts as City Manager on Aug. 8.
