YAKIMA, Wash.- An Army National Guard veteran and current radiology student at Yakima Valley College, Jeremy Allgaier says he wouldn’t be able to study without the benefits of the Veterans Program and the GI bill.
Allgaier says he was a salesman for his whole life when the COVID-19 Pandemic hit. His company laid him off and his wife, a nurse, suggested to look into radiology technology.
“It was a fantastic suggestion,” says Allgaier.
The student says the monetary benefits helps to support his family. The benefits at YVC through the GI Bill can cover up to 100% of tuition and housing costs up to $1,575 each month.
“The Army National Guard is the only way my family is able to afford this,” says Allgaier. “They have such great funding help it makes it a no brainer to be able to afford school.”
The college says the graduation rate for veterans at YVC is the best among the student population by allowing them to focus on studies and offering support when needed.
“YVC has been extremely successful in helping veterans of all ages succeed in a college atmosphere,” said Veterans Coordinator Chris Kinzell. “Our staff and advisors think very highly of the veteran population and tutoring and education and degree counseling is available to students.”
“It’s one of the best programs in the entire state if not literally the best program,” says Allgaier. “People don’t look at Yakima for number one anything and the reality is Yakima puts out the best radiology technologists in the state and it’s backed up by fax with grades, employment, and pass rate with the boards.”
