SEATTLE, Wash.– A University of Washington sleep expert is offering their expertise on falling back to Standard Time, saying it’s better for your health.
Dr. Nathaniel Watson is a professor of neurology at UW and the co-director of the UW Medicine Sleep Center. According to his biography on UW’s website, he is also a board certified physician and Director of the Harborview Sleep Clinic
In a statement, Dr. Watson said, “There are three clocks that we have: We have a body clock, we have a sun clock and we have a social clock. Our health is optimized when our body clock is aligned with the sun clock, and that’s most aligned when we’re on standard time.”
Dr. Watson explained when we “spring forward” there are several negative effects on people’s health, including an increase in heart attacks and accidents. He went on to say, “My sense is, we should change our clocks this weekend and then never touch them again. We should just stay on standard time.”
