UMATILLA COUNTY, Ore.-The dense fog and wet weather led to icy conditions and resulted in several crashes in Northeastern Oregon.
Umatilla Fire District #1 responded to three crashes due to the weather and shared some winter driving safety tips.
Winter driving safety tips from UCFD 1:
Minimize distractions when behind the wheel, including silencing your cell phone and turning the radio down.Reduce your speeds on slick roads.Roll down your window in dense fog, this allows you to hear approaching cars and emergency vehicles.Use roadside reflectors as a guide.Don’t use cruise control.Use your windshield wipers and defroster.Drive with low beams and fog lights.Use the right edge of the road as a guide.Increase your following distance.
