YAKIMA, Wash.-Two men were recently indicted for trying to sell 25 pounds of methamphetamine in Sunnyside.

Jesus Birrueta-Mendoza and Germain Reyna Saucedo were indicted on Feb 13 by a Federal Grand Jury for the Eastern District of Washington on one count each of Possession with Intent to Distribute 50 grams or more of meth.

Homeland Security Investigations determined that Birrueta-Mendoza had access to 50 pounds of meth in Jan of 2024.

According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington, a confidential informant met with Birrueta-Mendoza and received 40 grams of meth and agreed to buy 50 pounds of meth for $60,000.

Birrueta-Mendoza and Saucedo met the informant at the Bi-Mart in Sunnyside to sell them meth on Jan 18 and were arrested.

The agents obtained a search warrant and recovered over 25 pounds of meth in a bag on the backseat of the car, according to the U.S. Attorney’s press release.

“Illicit drugs harm our communities,” said U.S. Attorney Vanessa Waldref. “My office, alongside our law enforcement partners, will continue to work tirelessly to protect our neighborhoods from those who distribute this poison.”
