Two Hanford High students named National Merit Semifinalists

RICHLAND, Wash.-Two Richland School District students have been named 2025 National Merit Semifinalists.

Colin Shen and Audrey Xu from Hanford High School earned the recognition by being in the top one percent of students nationwide who took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, according to the RSD.

As semifinalists Chen and Xu will now complete a comprehensive scholarship application to try and become National Merit Finalists

The stringent application process includes writing an essay, providing detailed information about their academic records, extracurricular activities, and community involvement, as well as getting recommendations from school officials, according to an RSD press release.

Several other RSD students were recognized as commended scholars for their performance on the PSAT.
