PASCO, Wash.-A tree planting event is set for 1:30 p.m. at Mark Twain Elementary on Friday, Sept. 20.
The goal of the planting, sponsored by Kids for Urban Trees and the Benton Franklin Health District, is to enhance the landscape at the school while providing additional shade for children.
“The wonderful thing about this planting, is that the kids at Mark Twain Elementary School are already familiar with the benefit of having a shaded playground,” said Heather Nicholson, Mentor K4UT.
Kids for Urban Trees worked with fifth graders at Mark Twain on the planting event to replace older shade trees that are dying out, according to a press release on the event.
Yellowwood and Fall Fiesta Maple will be planted at the event that is an opportunity for families, friends, and neighbors to come together and make a positive impact on the local environment, according to the BFHD.
“It’s rewarding to watch children grow and learn to take care of their environment, ensuring a greener, healthier future for all,” said Erin Hockaday, Senior Manager for Surveillance & Investigation at the Benton-Franklin Health District.
Mark Twain Elementary School is located at 1801 Road 40 in Pasco.
