YAKIMA, Wash.-Two upcoming projects will impact traffic in Yakima over the next week.

On May 30, traffic will be reduced to one lane in all directions at the intersection of Washington Avenue and 10th Avenue as crews replace a damaged traffic signal with a new, fully functional cabinet, according to the City of Yakima.

Work is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. and should be done by 11 a.m. and temporary stop signs will be in place in each direction.

A project to replace and upgrade the water line on 2nd Avenue between Division Street and West Pine Street will impact traffic starting June 3 and is expected to last until August.

“The existing 12-inch,100-year-old cast-iron water main is being replaced with a new 12-inch ductile iron water main, including new system valves, fire hydrants and water services,” said Water/Irrigation Manager Mike Shane.

Temporary road closures may be necessary during the project and traffic control will be in place, although access in the work area will be maintained as best as possible, according to the City of Yakima.

Temporary water outages should be expected once the new system is installed and 24-hour notice will be provided by the City before any outages.

Funding for the water line project is coming from Yakima’s water system capital fund and customers will not be charged any additional fees.
