Traffic revision on US 12 to impact Yakima drivers for three months

YAKIMA, Wash.-A traffic revision will go into effect on April 8 for bridge deck repairs on US 12 and is expected to be in place through June.

Crews contracted through the Washington State Department of Transportation will be continuing work begun last summer to repair the westbound bridge deck on US 12 above Gordon Road between the N. 1st Street and N. 16th Avenue exits in Yakima.

According to WADOT, starting at 6 p.m. on April 8, one westbound lane on US 12 will be shifted onto the adjacent eastbound bridge. Access to westbound US 12 from N. 1st Street will be closed.

To access westbound US 12 from N. 1st street drivers will need to follow a detour westbound on I-82 to the East Selah Road interchange (exit 29), then drive east on I-82 to enter US 12.

The detour will be clearly marked, however, the speed limit will be reduced to 45 miles per hour in the work zone and vehicles over 10 feet wide will need to find alternate routes, according to WADOT.

Repairs to the eastbound bridge deck scheduled for July are expected to cause a similar traffic revision. The entire bridge deck repair project is scheduled to be completed by late fall 2024.
