SEATTLE, Wash.-Thanksgiving travel through SeaTac Airport is expected to be the busiest its been in years. With construction at the airport ongoing, the airport is offering flyers some tips to get in and out and on their flights.
Construction on the airport’s capital improvement project, Upgrade SEA, is ongoing and is causing congestion for travelers, according to KING 5 reporting on the Holiday travel season.
The projects include the construction of a new ticketing area and the relocation of security Checkpoint 1.
SeaTac expects 1.5 million passengers to pass through the airport between Nov. 16 and Nov. 27.
According to KING 5’s report, the Port of Seattle expects Nov. 22, the day before Thanksgiving to be the busiest, with 175,000 travelers passing through SeaTac.

Arrive early: SeaTac recommends flyers show up two hours before their flight time.Free parking: A new pilot program in effect through Nov. 27 will allow 90 minutes of free parking in airport garages for those picking up passengers.Try public transportation: Consider a rideshare or shuttle to the airport. If driving use the lane that is moving the quickest.Parking: If parking at the airport allow for an extra 40-60 minutes to find a spot as a new automated parking guidance system is being installed.Use the app: Download the flySEA app, which includes an interactive map of the airport and food ordering options.
