RICHLAND, Wash.-Three Richland School District students have been named National Merit Semifinalists for 2024.
Luke Berglin and John “Calder” Orrel from Hanford High School and Sahir Tandon from Richland High School earned the recognition according to the RSD.
The students each scored in the top 1 percent of students nationwide on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
The three Richland teens will now complete a comprehensive scholarship application, including writing an essay, providing detailed information about their academic records, extracurricular activities, and community involvement in the hopes of becoming National Merit Finalists and earning scholarships.
According to the RSD all three students have an aptitude for math and science, with future plans in the fields of engineering, computer science and physics.
Four RSD students have also been recognized as commended scholars for showing academic promise and scoring well on the PSAT.
