Think efficiency for home comfort, lower energy bills this winter

BELLEVUE, Wash.-Fall is a good time to remember some home energy tips to stay warm and keep our homes energy efficient during the cold weather months ahead.

According to Puget Sound Energy there are some simple steps customers can take to keep energy costs down over the winter months.

Winter energy efficiency tips:

Turn your thermostat down: By turning your thermostat down 7-10 degrees for eight hours a day you could save as much as 10 percent a year on your energy bill.Weatherize your home: Proper weatherization can save up to $200 a year in energy costs. Proper insulation, sweeps on the bottom of doors and window sealing kits can all lower energy costs.Optimize your heating system: Have your heating system checked before the colder months and tuned-up if necessary. Check, clean or replace furnace filters regularly and consider upgrading to an energy efficient system taking advantage of rebates from power companies, such as PSE.Upgrade your outdoor lighting with LED’s: Cold temperatures can shorten the lifespan of light bulbs. Check your outside lights and consider replacing traditional bulbs with LED’s which use up to six times less energy.
