‘The Legend of Vox Machina’ Stars Tease ‘Herculean Effort’ in Season 3 (VIDEO)

The Legend of Vox Machina Season 3 is just hours away from premiering on Amazon Prime Video, and, according to the cast, fans can expect to see the entire team moving mountains to bring the story forward.

“Adapting something to the length of our campaign is always going to be a Herculean effort,” Matthew Mercer says of condensing a 115-episode campaign that spans hundreds of hours and almost seven years of storytelling. Indeed, the task is tough — the current third season is essentially a continuation of a narrative arc that began in Season 2 because there was so much to cover — but everyone in the Critical Role world has proven they’re more than up to the task.

When TV Insider sat down with the full cast to talk about the upcoming episodes, it was clear they were not only proud of the work they’d done this season but also excited for the potential future.

“If we get to, it seems like smooth sailing from here on out!” jokes Liam O’Brien, who plays rogue Vax’ildan, of where the story could go past this season’s finale and what the characters could face. “It is so much fun and it’s so rewarding to decide together what are those moments that mean so much to us and our audience and then figuring out the calculus of getting from the next to the next when you have much less runway to do so.”

“In the first few seasons, that was where we were trying to figure out what the pipeline would look at, but as we got into Season 3, we had sort of started to understand what we set ourselves up for so we just kind of stuck with the calculus at that point,” explains Travis Willingham, who plays the barbarian Grog. “As we’re delivering this story, we’re confident in our ability to connect with these moments between the characters and really set up a delivery that people are going to be surprised by. And that’s sort of our North Star as we’re figuring out what fits, where it comes from.”

As for what’s in store for Vox Machina this season while they fight personal and worldly battles that could cost them their lives, in more ways than one?

“I think there’s always going to be a struggle with Vox Machina in terms of feeling beholden to their duties and their responsibilities versus what they want as people,” says Marisha Ray who plays half-elf druid Keyleth. “So obviously in Season 3 with a lot of people trying to reclaim some of their personal time, I think it’ll be fun to explore what they’ll be able to do on their downtime and what is going to drag them back into the fight.”

Fun… and angsty? Fans will soon find out!
