The Fallen Outdoors, funding trips for veterans

ORE.- The Fallen Outdoors is a nonprofit organizing outdoor adventures for veterans past and present free of charge.

Greg Rodgers, Event Coordinator for Fallen Outdoors Team Oregon said whether hiking, camping, hunting or fishing they work to get veterans into the outdoors. Rodgers shared he brought six veterans out the weekend before Veteran’s Day for a goose hunt.

“They actually stayed at my house, we got them out there, got some birds and had a good time,” said Rodgers.

Rodgers said the Fallen Outdoors is a national organization operated by volunteer vets, serving nearly 90 thousand veterans.

“It’s veterans helping veterans. I love it,” said Rodgers. “It is great networking.”

Through Rodgers seven years working for Fallen Outdoors, he has noticed veterans feel more relaxed with like-minded people. He said getting veterans in the outdoors helps veterans make connections.

Fallen Outdoors is always looking for sponsors to help fund trips for veterans. Past or present military members can get involved at their nearest branch here. You can also find The Fallen Outdoors West Coast Facebook page here.
