RICHLAND, Wash. – St. Patrick’s Day is a time when people celebrate by wearing green. Various events are held around the area, and the Arc of Tri-cities is hosting a get-together.
The Arc of Tri-Cities typically hosts a St. Patrick’s Day celebration. Carly Barrow, the Recreation Specialist with the Arc of Tri-Cities, said this year, they are doing a St. Patrick’s Day social for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She says this is a time to have some fun.
“They get to know each other playing bingo, photo booth, dinner, just hanging out,” Barrow said. “That’s what they truly love to do is just spend time together and be together as a group.”
Barrow said that’s why she loves her job so much: seeing happy faces and providing a safe, welcoming space.
Barrow said the Arc would start decorating for the event two hours prior and is looking for volunteers.
The Arc of Tri-Cities knows the importance of safety.
Barrow said she knows it’s essential for parents and caregivers to know their kids and clients are safe.
“They are still able to celebrate the holidays, but in a safe space where the Arc of Tri-Cities is sponsoring an event,” Barrow said. “They know they’re going to be well taken care of.”
According to Barrow, everyone who works at the Arc is background-checked and fingerprinted for safety. She said parents and caregivers know the Arc is a safe place.
